A newly-elected MLA from Odisha’s Balasore Sadar constituency rescued a pregnant woman from a flood-hit village suffering from labor pain and was taken to a nearby hospital. MLA Swaroop Kumar Das received an SOS call from the village sarpanch on Thursday, following which he first reached Mundadhar village in the district, which was completely submerged due to incessant rains, on a speedboat and then rescued the woman.
A pregnant woman named Mamta Raut and her family were worried as they could not find any way to reach the nearest hospital due to flood waters in the village. The family contacted the village sarpanch following which a call was made to the MLA, who was already inspecting the affected villages by boat.
He immediately reached Mundadhar village and took the woman in his speedboat to the nearest motorable road and then took her to the district hospital, where she gave birth to a boy.
