The minister’s claim that there is gold in three districts has given a new reason for optimism to the people of Odisha.

In fact, the 1980s saw the first survey for gold resources in Keonjhar district. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) conducted surveys in places such as Kushkala, Goppur and Jaldiha villages under Taramakant and Nayakot panchayats in Banaspal block of Keonjhar district using the techniques available at that time. The results of the survey, however, remained a mystery.

Then, in 2021-2022, GSI conducted another study in those areas of Keonjhar district using latest techniques. GSI officials were silent about the findings of the survey even at that time.

But, the residents of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Deogarh are perplexed in light of the remarks of the Minister of Steel and Mines in the House.
