Odisha Election Commission releases model code of conduct for upcoming panchayat elections

Odisha Election Commission has laid down a model code of conduct, which will come into force from the date of issuance of election notification by the State Election Commission for the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state. The State Election Commission has issued a notification in this regard.

The Model Code of Conduct, issued in Odia and English versions, directs the conduct of free and fair elections. This will remain in force till the counting of votes is over.

“The Odisha Election Commission, in exercise of the powers vested in Article 243 of the Constitution of India and the Panchayat Acts and Rules, has laid down a model code of conduct for the forthcoming Panchayat elections in the State,” the statement said.

The three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha are likely to be held in the first or second week of February 2022. It is likely that the official announcement of the Panchayat election date will be made between December 26 and December 31.

All the parties involved in the by-election are expected to make the voter list available on December 20. Three-tier elections will be held in 6,794 panchayats of the state. Voting deadline has been extended. The voting process will be held from 7 am to 1 pm.
