Odisha: Covid-19 cases fall, experts call it beginning of end of third wave. Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: With a further drop in the single-day covid cases (1,497) in the state on Monday, healthcare authorities said it could well be the beginning of the end of the third wave here.
Even until a little over a month ago, the state was reporting 1000 plus cases. The infections had plateaued on January 19 with 11,607 cases. Since then, there has been a steady decline. “With a sharp and consistent fall in the infection count across the country as well as Odisha, it can be safely assumed that the state is heading towards the tail-end of the third wave. The test positivity rate has also reduced significantly,” Jayant Pandagovernment’s technical advisor on Covid-19, said.
“With a sharp and consistent fall in the infection count across the country as well as Odisha, it can be safely assumed that the state is heading towards the tail-end of the third wave. The test positivity rate has also reduced significantly. Schools have reopened and economic activities have resumed. Several restrictions like night curfew, cap on gatherings and poll rallies have been relaxed. About 75% people in the state have received both the doses. However, the unvaccinated ones should take the jab at the earliest and people should continue to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour,” Jayant Panda, government’s technical advisor on Covid-19, said.
The state has, so far, recorded 12,68,308 infections in the three waves taken together. With recoveries exceeding the single-day new infections, the active cases are likely to fall sharply. Until Monday morning (Monday recoveries are yet to be updated), the active cases stood at 21,525.
