Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik approves Rs 36 crore revamp plans for Lokanath, Alarnath shrines in Puri | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has approved development plans worth Rs 28 crore for Lokanath temple in Puri and Rs 8 crore to beautify Alarnath shrine in Brahmagiri, as part of his continuous emphasis on the redevelopment of major temples in Odisha, a key highlight of his fifth term in office.
According to the chief minister’s office (CMO), the redevelopment and renovation the two temples are likely to be completed in a year. State-run Odisha bridge and construction corporation limited has been assigned to give facelift to the Lokanath and Alarnath temples.
“The master plans of both the temples lay stress on beautification of the inner and outer complexes, repair and replacement of rickety stones, basic amenities for devotees as well as servitors, proper illumination, parking facilities, widened road connectivity, landscaping and beautification of the gardens and proper drainage systems,” the CMO said.
Recently, Naveen’s private secretary (5T) V K Pandian visited Alarnath and Lokanath temples and directed the Puri district administration to prepare the redevelopment plans to woo tourists.
“The servitors of both the temples have expressed their gratitude to the chief minister and urged him to offer his prayers soon. The chief minister has assured to visit the temples,” the CMO said.
In the last 2 to 3 years, Naveen announced development and beautification packages of many temples, including the Puri Shree Jagannath heritage corridor project at Rs 800 crore, Shree Lingaraj temple revamp at Rs 700 crore, Rs 100 crore masterplan for development of the historic Nilamadhab temple at Kantilo in Nayagarh district, development of the Sarala Temple in Jagatsinghpur district at Rs 42 crore, Tara Tarini temple in Ganjam district at Rs 117 crore and Cuttack Chandi temple at Rs 70 crore. Besides, the chief minister announced SAMALEI (Samaleswari Temple Area Management and Local Economic Initiatives) project worth Rs 200 crore for development of Maa Samaleswari temple, the presiding deity of Sambalpur.
