Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik A road safety initiative, a training program for first responders, was launched here on Wednesday under the banner of Rakshak. “Road accidents are a serious cause of concern for all of us. This has serious implications for families and our economy. In road accident situations, the first hour after the accident is the most crucial for saving lives,” Naveen said.
This capacity building program is being organized by the Department of Commerce and Transport in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zussamenerbeit (GIZ) and the Odisha branch of the Indian Red Cross Society.
In the first phase, 300 master trainers including volunteers from Indian Red Cross Society and NGOs across the state will be trained in Training of Trainers (TOT) by experts from Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC). The TOTs will be conducted at 10 locations – Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Balasore, Koraput, Phulbani, Sundergarh, Keonjhar and Bhawanipatna.
In the second phase, 300 master trainers will visit accident prone areas in all 30 districts and train local people to help the victims of road accidents. 30,000 first responders will be equipped to provide first aid and pre-hospital trauma care to accident victims within golden hours. The first responders will also educate people about road safety measures and Good Samaritan law.
