Odisha: Bad research results ruin Utkal University Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: CAG The report tabled in the assembly and the NIRF rankings released on Friday points to poor research output Utkal University. The state’s premier university got only 13.78 out of 100 in research and professional practice, which is why it has secured an overall rank of 87.
Four other institutions of the state, including two private universities, have got a place in the top-100 list of NIRF. The CAG report said only one patent was filed by the university between 2014 and 2019. This was done in 2017-18 but was not provided till the time of audit. With regard to consultancy, Utkal University had received Rs 71.74 lakh for four consultancy projects between 2014-19, read the CAG report.
Academics said that the university seriously needs motivation to strengthen its research ecosystem. Ashok Kumar Das, Vice President Odisha State Council of Higher Education And the former vice-chancellor of the university said, “All stakeholders should work together to strengthen the research ecosystem. We have started work in this direction. Hopefully, the target will be achieved,” Das said.
Siba Prasad Officer, East Vice Chancellor of FM University And the former Utkal University professor said, “Out of 257 sanctioned posts, 126 are lying vacant in Utkal University. How can you even think about research if you don’t have half the faculty positions?” the officer asked.
