Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will induct new faces in the ministry, who will take oath on Sunday

In a major development in Odisha politics, ministers in the cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have been asked to resign ahead of the much-awaited reshuffle. Speaker Surya Narayan Patro also resigned on Saturday.

The BJD-led government completed three years of its fifth term on May 29. This is the first time in Patnaik’s political tenure that the cabinet has been changed from top to bottom. The chief minister will induct new faces into the ministry, who will take oath on Sunday at 11.45 am. Sources said that for the first time a woman will be the speaker of Odisha Assembly.

The performance and report cards of the ministers are again the criteria for their induction into the cabinet. Those doing good work will be considered for victory in Panchayat and local body elections.

Those who are likely to get ministerial posts are Usha Devi of Ganjam; Pratap Dev from Kendrapara; Badri Narayan Patra from Keonjhar; Pradeep Amat from Boudh; Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak from Kendrapara; Mayurbhanj to Basanti Hembram; Debesh Acharya from Bargarh; Ashwini Patra from Balasore; Rudra Maharathi from Puri; Preeti Ranjan Ghadei from Jajpur; and Latika Pradha from Ganjam.

Patnaik did not reshuffle the ministry in the last three years, although earlier there was speculation about it due to several issues. However, the cabinet remained unchanged due to elections to Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies.

Sources said that Patnaik had taken the performance report card as a parameter for the reshuffle, and those who had done well in the recent panchayat and local body elections may return it. He said those who performed poorly in his constituency could be removed.
