Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Devendra Fadnavis on Monday termed as “misleading” the resolution tabled by the state government in the Assembly asking the Center to present the population figures of OBCs based on the 2011 Census, So that OBCs can remain in the local bodies political reservation for the members.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the start of the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Fadnavis said the Supreme Court had asked for an empirical inquiry (on the issue of OBC population) through the State Backward Classes Commission. “The apex court has not asked for census data. The resolution, to be tabled in both the houses of the Maharashtra Legislature, states that the State Backward Classes Commission has been constituted and it needs the 2011 social, economic and caste-based census data, to prepare empirical data of the OBC population.
