The government on Thursday said there will now be 27% reservation for other backward classes in medical and dental courses and 10% for economically weaker sections (which covers further) for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. under All India Quota. This will benefit about 1,500 OBC students in MBBS and 2,500 OBC students in post-graduation and about 550 EWS students in MBBS and 1,000 students in post-graduation. In order to provide benefits to students belonging to the EWS category in admission to higher educational institutions, a constitutional amendment was brought in 2019, which enabled the provision of 10% reservation for “further”.
The latest decision will extend the benefits for the EWS students in the AIQ scheme.
