Adam Milne took five wickets before Tim Seifert hit an unbeaten half-century to help New Zealand secure a series-levelling win in Dunedin.

New Zealand leveled the series with a nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 international on Wednesday, with opener Tim Seifert scoring an unbeaten 79. Black Caps bowler Adam Milne had earlier put in a man-of-the-match performance of five for just 26 as Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 141.

“You always dream of getting a five-wicket haul for New Zealand. As I had scored three runs in the last over with three tailenders, I started to feel a bit greedy,” Milne later admitted.

Seifert then helped New Zealand to victory as the hosts made a blistering start to 146-1 in reply after 14.4 overs.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham praised his side’s “beautiful clinical performance”.

“The way we just kept taking wickets, it’s really the best way to stop the run rate,” he added.

“I thought our bowling performance was excellent.”

New Zealand’s win in Dunedin leveled the series at 1-1 ahead of the decider in Queenstown this Saturday.

Sri Lanka won the first T20 match in Auckland last Sunday.

Milne’s impressive bowling performance set New Zealand 142 for victory.

Opener Chad Bowes was caught for 31 off 15 balls, before Seifert stitched together a 106-run partnership with Latham, who finished on 20 not out.

Seifert then ended New Zealand’s innings with the help of two sixes.

It was a brutal defeat for Sri Lanka, who had started well.

Kushal Perera (35) and Dhananjaya de Silva (37) stitched a 46-ball 62-run partnership in the middle order to take the visitors to 99-4 after 12 overs.

The tourists then collapsed, losing their next six wickets for just 42 runs as New Zealand’s seamers found their lengths to devastating effect.

Charith Aslanka was the last Sri Lankan batsman to offer any resistance, scoring 24 off 19 balls.

Milne did most of the damage for New Zealand, dismissing Sri Lankan tailenders Dilshan Madushanka and Pramod Madushan without scoring.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka, who credited Milne’s superb bowling, said, ‘We started well but lost momentum in the middle.

“Losing wickets at regular intervals cost us the game.”

Sri Lanka lost the Test and One Day International series 2–0 during their month-long tour of New Zealand.
