NYFW: Hometowns, exotic locations inspire menswear designers – Times of India

New York Fashion Week Men’s Day returned to in-person presentations on Wednesday, with nearly a dozen emerging designers showcasing their 2022 collections.

As the audience moves within tactile distance of the designs, the models appear as sculptures. Sometimes, there was a central character displaying the theme behind the look.

Some designers sought inspiration closer to home this year, while others drew on more distant tropical locations.

Tristan Detwiler cited the sand and beaches of her San Diego hometown as inspiration for her Stan collection, which included colorful patterns and quilt-like fabrics in neutral, earthy tones.

“I source all the clothing myself, I meet people, I learn their stories, I learn about cultures,” Detwiler said. “Clothes come second, it’s really the story that comes first.”

Bright colors, sultry landscapes, and eye-catching shapes dominated designer Teddy Vonnerson’s collection.

“I’ve always wanted to have an exotic collection that took me to the South Seas and I was really inspired by Tahiti and the works of Paul Gauguin,” said Wonerson.

Meanwhile, designer William McNicol of the William Frederick Collection said that all of his pieces were designed, developed and manufactured in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

Her presentation featured models wearing casual, neutral-colored outfits painted on canvas.

“Most of our collections are based on creativity, curiosity, intelligence, intimacy,” McNicol said.

“This collection was specifically about the artist’s life, and clothing that worked with the artist as well as within their space. So I wanted neutrals and things that would be lost within the artist’s studio or loft or space. , “They said.

The biennial event features ten emerging brands launching their collections at 5 a.m. and another five at noon.
