Agency officials confirmed that New York City students and teachers can no longer use ChatGPT on Department of Education devices or Internet networks.

New York City public schools have restricted access to ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot developed by Microsoft’s OpenAI that has become quite the rage for giving human-like text answers to questions.

As Chalkbeat reports, agency officials have confirmed that students and teachers can no longer access ChatGPT on Department of Education devices or internet networks.

The Department of Education blocked access to ChatGPT, citing “negative effects on student learning, and concerns about the security and accuracy of the content”.

A New York City Department said, “While this tool may be able to provide quick and easy answers to questions, it does not build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for academic and lifelong success.” Huh.” Education The spokesperson was quoted as saying.

An OpenAI spokesperson said the company is developing a “mitigation” to help anyone spot the text generated by ChatGPT.

“We made ChatGPT available as a research preview to drive learning from real-world use, which we believe is a critical part of developing and deploying capable, secure AI systems. We are continually incorporating feedback and lessons learned,” the spokesperson said.

The chatbot has sparked fears among some schools and teachers that their writing assignments could soon be “obsolete” – and that the program could encourage “cheating and plagiarism”.

A high school English teacher argued in The Atlantic that the chatbot spells “the end of high school English”.

OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, is reportedly looking to raise capital at a valuation of around $30 billion.

Microsoft acquired OpenAI for $1 billion and is now pushing ChatGPT applications to solve real-life problems.
