Nvidia: Explained: What is the new Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution technology and how can it be useful – Times of India

dynamic super resolution or is a technology developed by DSR NVIDIA Which can deliver 4K-quality graphics even on your HD screen. So, if your graphics card is capable of running games at 4K, but you have a 1440p monitor, you can use this technique to get a better view.
If the game supports 4K, this technology renders that game at a more detailed resolution and downgrades the result again to the resolution that your monitor supports. This helps in achieving sharp images but can cause performance degradation as you will be asking your GPU to do more work.
Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution ,DLDSR,
This technology has been around for a long time and the company has now developed a more advanced version of the same technology that they are incorporating into their latest drivers. The company claims that users can use this technology to make ‘most games’ appear sharper, by running them at a higher resolution than the monitor originally intended. This new technology is called Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution, or DLDSR.
What is DLDSR?
The technology uses the same concept of DSR and combines AI that works to enhance the visuals. The company also claims that this technology will not increase the native resolution much to achieve better performance, yet users will be able to get the same improvement in image quality. This means that the image quality produced by a DSR running at four times the resolution will be the same as the image quality of a DLDSR running at 2.25 times.
However, these results are just Nvidia’s claims and the company has yet to demonstrate one of the best-case scenarios. It’s possible for users to get different FPS results in different games, depending on what setting they’re running DLDSR in. Given the widespread game support, users will be able to play one of their favorite older titles, but users will still need Nvidia’s RTX graphics card to use it.
Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS)
Nvidia has previously used deep learning to improve performance and image quality. The company also received much praise for its Deep Learning Super Sampling or DLSS system. It is a machine-learning and spatial image upscaling technique that uses information from the previous frame to produce the current frame to reduce the workload of the GPU. This technique is limited to select titles such as God of War and is used in very few games.
rival technology
Nvidia’s competitor AMD has also announced its technology to improve graphics and performance in a number of games. AMD is the name used for its technology radian super resolution, It doesn’t actually use the same technology as DLSS or DLDSR, but is aimed towards the same goal. AMD has its own advanced technology called Virtual Super Resolution.
How to use DLDSR?
To use Nvidia’s DLDSR users will need to update to the latest driver and open the Nvidia Control Panel app. Then go to Manage 3D Settings and click on DSR. Then choose one of the DL scaling options from the drop-down menu.
