Nusrat Jahan and Nikhil Jain’s marriage ‘not legally valid’, rules Kolkata Court

A local court in Kolkata on Wednesday said that the marriage of actor-turned-politician Nusrat Jahan and businessman Nikhil Jain is “not legally valid”. The verdict came months after Nusrat claimed that her marriage with Nikhil was “invalid” in India.

“It is hereby declared that the alleged marriage between the Plaintiff and the Respondent which took place on 19/06/2019 at Bodrum, Turkey is not legally valid. Thus, the suit is disposed of on admission,” the Kolkata court told India Today. Quoted said.

Nusrat and Nikhil tied the knot in the picturesque Turkish city of Bodrum in 2019, when the former made her political debut by winning the Lok Sabha elections. While the wedding in Turkey was a low-key affair, the couple later hosted a grand reception in Kolkata, where they also invited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Nikhil had earlier claimed that Nusrat defied his requests to register their marriage. On the other hand, Nusrat had accused Nikhil of misusing his money even after their separation. Jain denied the allegations, calling them “baseless, defamatory and devoid of truth”.

Meanwhile, Nushrat recently hinted that she might already be married to actor-politician Yash Dasgupta. The couple welcomed their son, Yashan in August.

When asked about her marriage controversy, Nusrat recently told IndiaToday.in, “They didn’t pay for my wedding, they didn’t pay hotel bills. I don’t need to tell them anything. I’m honest. I was portrayed the wrong way, and now I’ve made it clear.”

At the same time, in the interview, Nusrat reiterated that during the entire controversy, she did not let anyone down and did not take anyone’s name. She said that it is easy to blame others or show others the wrong way.
