Varanasi: District Police has written a letter National Testing Agency (NTA) requested to withhold the results of 16 candidates who took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), after the disclosure that they were in contact with the solver’ the gang busted in September.
On September 12, four people, including a native of Bihar and a medico from KGMU Lucknow, were arrested for using unfair means to help candidates appearing for NEET.
Commissioner of Police A Satish Ganesh said, “During the ongoing investigation, we found that 25 aspirants were in contact with this gang. 16 of them appeared for NEET at different centres, while nine left… The NTA Director’s cooperation was sought in the probe and a report was sent to withhold the results of 16 candidates till the completion of the investigation.
The CP said Tripura’s Heena Biswas, for whom an impersonation Julie Kumari had appeared in the NEET exam here on September 12, is also among 16 candidates. Police arrested Julie along with her mother Babita.
The CP said: “It is learned that 25 candidates from different districts of the three states avoided filling the form for NEET from their own stations even though their fees were deposited through an individual’s bank account. The investigators approached the NTA officials for the attendance sheet. It was found that nine out of 25 left the exam. To find out whether genuine candidates appeared in NEET matching their fingerprints or not. The report was sent to the Director NTA.
He said investigators are also focusing on gathering enough evidence to foil the anticipatory bail attempt of the absconding accused.
On September 12, Crime Branch officials raided the NEET examination center at St. Francis Xavier’s School in Sona Talab area of Sarnath police station area in the afternoon session and caught Julie and her mother from Patna. Gaya with Babita and Julie, Vikas manages to escape. Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery with intent to defraud), 471 (cheating or dishonestly taking any document as genuine) An FIR was registered under knows or has reason to believe to be a forged document) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) with Sarnath Police against them.
On 14 September, the police succeeded in nabbing KGMU Medico Dr Osama Shahid and Abhay Kumar Mehta of this gang. Later, Vikas Kumar Mahto of Khagaria and Raju Kumar of Jehanabad, Bihar were also arrested, but the gang leader from Patna, Nilesh Kumar alias PK alias Prem Kumar, was arrested on September 19 by a team of Varanasi Police at their home. Succeeded in raiding.
