New Delhi: Double Trap World Champion Ankur Mittal and Olympic-bound rifle shooter Anjum Moudgil The recommendation was made to Rajiv Gandhi on Wednesday Khel Ratna Award by National Rifles Association of India (NRAI)
Mittal won his double trap world title in 2018 and received the Arjuna Award in the same year. Moudgil is a silver-medallist of the World Championships since the 2018 edition and was awarded the Arjuna in 2019.
“Last year also, both were recommended in the same category,” NRAI said in a statement.
For Arjuna Awards, NRAI recommends Olympic-bound pair of Elavenil Valarivan Abhishek Verma. While Valarivan is the world number one in the women’s 10m air rifle, Verma tops the men’s 10m air pistol.
Also in the race for national honors is 50m pistol world champion Om Prakash Mitherwal.
There was no recommendation from NRAI in the Dronacharya award category this year.
National Sports Awards It is observed on 29 August every year to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand as National Sports Day.
Apart from the recommendations of national federations, athletes can also enroll themselves through online application. The last date for submission is 5th July.
