Noted Malayalam actor GKPillai passes away at the age of 97

Actor GK Pillai, who painted grease in Malayalam films besides television serials for over six decades, passed away on Friday, industry sources said. He was 97 years old. He died of age related illness.

After a 13-year stint in the Indian Army and Navy, Pillai took retirement from the Defense Force and began an illustrious film career in 1954 and later ventured into TV and was active until two years ago.

He has acted in over 300 films and played villains and excelled when he played roles in films based on popular ballads in the state.

A highly regarded actor, Pillai’s melodious voice was his stand out feature which won him several roles and several film awards.

In between, he also ventured into politics and was also seen in the circles of the Congress party.

He has six children in his family, while his wife has passed away.

Hailing from the capital city district, he was a popular figure at many events.

The funeral will be held here later in the day.
