Both the sides were looking to get back to winning ways in the 999th match of IPL history. CSK skipper Dhoni, who won the toss and elected to bat first, was asked why he reached Chennai after Punjab at the Chepauk Stadium on Sunday, to which he gave an eloquent response.
The 41-year-old wicket-keeper batsman revealed that this was done deliberately to save his players from prolonged sun exposure as they were warming up for the match. Dhoni said that some teams reach the day’s play too early, but being in the sun takes its toll on players, which is why CSK came up with a ‘wise’ move.

“When you play a one-day game, the heat is a factor. Fast bowlers can get some rest. In day games, some players are very quick. It is important to be sensible. Should not be exposed too much under the sun. After winning the toss, Dhoni said, IPL is a long tournament.
Talking about their defeat against Rajasthan Royals, the veteran former Indian skipper said that his team is trying to learn from the games that do not come their way.

“There will be games that will not be in your favor. You have to accept the lessons. It’s the same team,” Dhoni said.
While Chennai Super Kings played with the same team from their previous match, Shikhar made one change from his side, with Harpreet Brar coming in the playing XI in place of Gurnoor.
