Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes Rohit SharmaIn recent times, especially after the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the criticism has been ‘excessive’. His captaincy has also come under the scanner and former veteran cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar are also strongly criticizing Rohit and his leadership qualities. But Harbhajan Singh believes Rohit commands respect from his teammates and also reminded everyone that cricket is a team sport.

“I think people are going too far…the way Rohit has been criticized. Cricket is a team sport and one person cannot take you from one place to another. Team India Didn’t do well in WTC final, and yes, you talk about that performance and go on from there. But it’s unfair to criticize Rohit alone, that he is not scoring runs, putting on weight, not good captaincy I think he is a brilliant leader,” Harbhajan said in an interview to PTI.

Rohit Sharma Indian Premier League (IPLLeading Mumbai Indians five times as captain and according to Harbhajan Singh, one needs to show faith in the India skipper and his leadership ability. He is also of the opinion that Rohit should get support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while also reminding that M S Dhoni And Virat Kohli Got support from the then BCCI presidents during his captaincy tenure. For the unaware, Roger Binny is the current BCCI President, however, when Sourav Ganguly was at the helm of the BCCI, Rohit Sharma was appointed India’s captain across all formats.

“I have played with him (Rohit) and observed him closely. He commands a lot of respect not only in the MI dressing room but also in the Indian dressing room. So I think it is unfair to judge him based on recent results . that’ll do.” Be good and we need to show faith in that and we need to support that and not point out you’re not doing this or you’re not doing that. If you have support from BCCI, you can work independently. Not just MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli, if you go back a bit, a lot of captains have got support from BCCI presidents of that time.

“Rohit must be getting support from the BCCI. I don’t know how much support he will be getting (though). That kind of support will help him take the right kind of decision at the right time. He will get that freedom if he wants to.” There is support. There should be support for Rohit like the BCCI has given to all its captains,” the former off-spinner said.
