‘Not a desirable situation’: Supreme Court concerned over states not giving ‘general consent’ to CBI for investigation India News – Times of India

New Delhi: Supreme court On Monday expressed concern over not giving general consent by the state governments central bureau (CBI) asked to investigate in their areas and said that around 150 such requests are pending before the state governments.
The top court said it is not a “desirable situation” that eight states, including Maharashtra, West Bengal and Jharkhand, are not allowing CBI probe in their states.
The apex court also expressed concern over the passing of a large number of stay orders by the High Courts. CBI Cases Due to which the investigation is getting delayed and the hearing is being completed in a time bound manner.
A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said both the issues should be further examined and referred them to the Chief Justice of India for taking a decision.
Several opposition parties have withdrawn their ‘general consent’ from the CBI to conduct investigations in their states, alleging that the Center uses the probe agency for political vendetta.
