Northern California firefighters fight fresh wildfires; details here

bridgeport: Firefighters in Northern California battle fresh wildfires east of Sacramento on Monday. The fire quickly spread to 959 acres (388 ha) in Amador County after 7 p.m. Monday, according to Cal Fire. The fire agency earlier said on Twitter that the fire was 75 acres (30 ha) in size and was burning at an alarming rate of spread across dry grass. The fire is one of many burnings in the state.

Earlier on Monday, officials said evacuation orders and warnings had been lifted in northern California counties after wildfires threatened about 500 homes and other buildings.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said warnings related to the Rice Fire were lifted early Monday. Residents were urged to be careful when returning to the area due to possible damage. The fire started last Tuesday near the Yuba River and destroyed 5 homes and 8 other structures, fire officials said.

It began with a building burning and flames spread to nearby dry vegetation in a rural area northeast of Sacramento, about halfway between the state capitol and the Nevada border. The fire has burned about 900 acres (366 ha) and 65 percent has been brought under control.
