North Korean citizen shot dead after importing ‘squid game’ on USB drive; Life imprisonment for students who secretly bought or watched K-drama – Report – Times of India

NS Korean Drama ,squid game‘ has been creating panic across the world since its release this year. The hype around the show, however, is paying the citizen of North Korea Dear

Radio Free Asia (RFA), a US news media outlet, reported on November 23 that North Korea punished high school students after they were caught watching a “squid game” in secret.

The report said some citizens who imported shows on USB drives across the border even paid with their lives. It was reported that seven high school students in the city of Chongjin in northern Hamgyong province were caught watching a ‘squid game’ under the supervision of the 109th Joint Command of Staff.

“Residents who imported Labor USB sticks with Korean drama were shot and the student who bought the USD was sentenced to life in prison, while other students who watched with him were sentenced to five years of labor reform,” A source was quoted as saying.

It turned out that the students were caught one after the other who watched the show with the student buying the USB, telling the other students about the show. When they passed around the USB, they were allegedly caught.

This is the first time that juvenile crimes have been treated harshly after the country strengthened censorship of “foreign material”.

Reports say that the investigation and punishment of criminals will continue, as the borders are closed due to COVID19.

It was not only the students that were punished, but the high school principal, youth secretary and teacher were also dismissed from their posts.

Given the show’s global popularity, it was reported earlier this month that the director dong-huku Will be back soon with the second season.
