According to multiple media reports, the North Korean government has banned its citizens from laughing, drinking and shopping from Friday. The country, which has been in the limelight for its stringent laws and government, recently made its announcement as part of 11 days of mourning on the 10th anniversary of former leader and Kim Jong Un’s father Kim Jong-il.

Reports said that the government in its guidelines banned citizens from celebrating any joy during the period of mourning and also banned any leisure activities.

“Even if your family member dies during the period of mourning, you are not allowed to cry out loud, and the body should be taken out after it is over. If people come to the period of mourning So people can’t even celebrate their birthdays,” Radio Free Asia reported quoting a North Korean resident.

The citizen said that any violation of the ban during the 10-day mourning period would bear dire consequences.

Kim Jong Il, who was in power for 17 years from 1994 to 2011 – died of a heart attack on 17 December 2011 at the age of 69. He was then succeeded by his third and youngest son, current leader Kim Jong Un. ,

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended a ceremony on Friday to remember his father, Kim Jong Il, who died ten years ago, according to a video shown by the socialist state’s official broadcaster.

During the outdoor ceremony, senior North Korean official Cho Ryong Hee called Kim Jong Il “the father of our people” who built capacity for the North’s military and economic might.

Under Kim Jong Un, Cho said North Korea’s “strategic position” had been elevated and urged the public to “maintain honesty” to his leadership.
