Nokia was battling both these Chinese brands in a German court in the 4G/5G patent case.

A German court has decided to sue smartphone brand Nokia in its 4G/5G patent dispute against Oppo.

According to GizmoChina, the suit resulted from a breakdown in discussions between Nokia and OPPO over 4G (LTE) and 5G patents.

While the established cases are in four countries, Oppo competes with Nokia in nine countries. Oppo had said that the lawsuit filed by Nokia was shocking.

The decision of the German Regional Court is the first in relation to the disputed patent.

Nokia sued Oppo in three regional German jurisdictions over nine Standard Required Patents (SEPs) and five implementation patents.

Nokia is the standard bearer in the 5G SEP segment with a massive investment of around $130.3 billion.

It has several patents in its area and has received several settlements in recent times. Daimler and Lenovo are some of the recent rivals of Nokia that have tied up with the Finnish company.

Mannheim Regional Court orders Nokia to cease-fire against Oppo. This means that OPPO and OnePlus devices are banned from Germany.

The report said that Oppo’s objection was overruled by the judge, who labeled the Chinese firm as a reluctant licensee.
