Noida: A three-year-old boy walking back home with his mother was crushed to death under the wheels of an SUV in Sector 20 on Thursday evening.
Aditya Singh, a resident of Sector 20’s Block G, was hastened to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Though an FIR was filed within an hour of the accident, police had not been able to track down the hit-and-run driver till late on Friday.
The accident occurred around 5. 30pm on Thursday, when Aditya was walking back home as usual with his mother from his tuition classes in Block C. “As soon as the mother-son duo reached near Brijwasi Sweets in the sector, the speeding SUV hit them from behind. Aditya was run over while his mother, Ranju Devi, had a narrow escape,” Aditya’s uncle Parmanand Singh said.
As Aditya’s mother cried for help, a passerby hastened the boy to the hospital. “However, it was too late,” Singh said.
Aditya’s father, Pappu Singh, runs a garment store in Atta Market while his mother is a homemaker. The couple has another child, a one and a half year-old boy. “Aditya attended a playschool in the neighborhood and the family was planning to enroll him in a school next year,” Singh said.
Additional deputy commissioner (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said a case was registered against an unidentified person under sections 304A (death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the IPC at the local police station on a complaint by Aditya’s uncle. “After scanning footage of CCTV cameras, we identified the vehicle and seized it from Delhi. Efforts are on to nab the driver,” he added.
