Despite his team Haryana’s disappointing performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Chahal continued to perform well in the competition. In Haryana’s first game against Hyderabad, the 31-year-old took three wickets before adding another two scalps in his next game against Saurashtra. He then followed up his performance by taking three wickets each in matches against Jharkhand, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

He has not been favored by the Indian management in recent times due to his form but his performances are likely to get him back in contention for the ODI series in South Africa. Chahal had taken 16 wickets in just five matches he played in South Africa last time.

He has represented India in 56 ODIs and 50 T20Is and has taken a combined 161 wickets including three five-wicket hauls. If he does make it to the white-ball team, the 31-year-old will certainly look forward to repeating his earlier performances in South Africa.
