No SC relief for NGOs that lost foreign funding license. India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to pass interim order to protect around 6000 NGOs whose FCRA registration did not get renewed. The court asked them to make representation to the Center which would take a decision as per law.
The Center told the SC that these 6000 NGOs did not apply for renewal of license while 11594 NGOs which file renewal have already been granted to operate.
The FCRA registration is mandatory for any association and NGO to receive foreign funding,
The plea, filed by US-based NGO ‘Global Peace Initiative’, came up for hearing before a bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar.
