West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and State Law Minister Malay Ghatak filed a petition in the Supreme Court in the Narada sting case. On which they did not get relief. The Supreme Court has asked Mamta and Malay to apply again to the Calcutta High Court. Also, while staying the decision of the Calcutta High Court, Mamta and Malay have been asked to reconsider the petition.
In fact, before the assembly elections in Bengal in 2016, some tapes were released by the Narada news portal. After this sting operation it was claimed that the tapes were recorded in 2014. Citing the tapes, Trinamool ministers, MPs and MLAs were accused of taking cash from dummy companies. The matter reached the Calcutta High Court. The High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry in 2017.
High Court restrains Mamata from filing affidavit
Four Trinamool Congress leaders were arrested in this case. In this case, Mamta Banerjee had reached the CBI office. He was made a party in this case. It was only after this that the Calcutta High Court stayed Mamta’s filing of the affidavit. Bengal CM challenged this in the Supreme Court.
Hearing this petition, the Supreme Court said that the petitioners can apply in the High Court till June 28. Its advance copy will have to be given to the CBI a day before i.e. by June 27. Along with this order, the Supreme Court also stayed the decision of the Calcutta High Court.
Mamta said that the High Court is not allowing us to present our side
In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, Mamta and Malay had said that the High Court is not giving a chance to present their side on the allegations of CBI. Whereas the CBI said that the affidavit was given only after arguments from both the sides. Notices were given long ago. During the hearing, the Supreme Court raised the question that why did the petitioner file the affidavit with a delay?
