New Delhi: The precautionary COVID-19 vaccination dose or booster dose for health and frontline workers and senior citizens above 60 years of age will start from January 10.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said that the eligible population who have already received their two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and are eligible for a booster dose will not require fresh registration.
The eligible population can make a direct appointment or walk-in at any of the COVID-19 vaccination centers to receive their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Union Health Ministry said, “The schedule will be published on January 8. The facility of online appointment will also be started by Friday evening. Vaccination with onsite appointment will start from January 10.”
The Center has already made it clear that the precautionary COVID-19 vaccine or booster dose will be the same vaccine that was given in the last two doses earlier.
During a media briefing of the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, Dr VK Paul, Member-Health at NITI Aayog, said, “The dosage of the precautionary COVID-19 vaccine will be the same vaccine that was given earlier. Those who have received Covaxin will receive Covaxin, those who have received the primary two doses of CovaShield will receive CovaShield.”
The Kovid-19 vaccination campaign for adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 years has started from January 3 in the country. On the very first day, more than 40 lakh adolescents were vaccinated against Kovid-19.
Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday announced that over one crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have already been administered to children in the age group of 15 to 18 years.
