Puducherry: Government of Puducherry has decided to continue with the fee prescribed by the Fee Committee in 2018 and 2020 for MBBS/BDS/BSC Nursing/B Pharm courses for the academic year 2021-22.
The current fee committee, convened in October 2021 headed by retired Madras High Court judge Justice T Sundiram, increased the fee for these courses for three years from 2021-2022 to 2023-2024.
However, the students and parents’ forums urged the government not to increase the fee as decided by the committee in October 2021, but the fee fixed by the fee committee in 2018 (MBBS/BDS/BSc Nursing) and in 2020 (B Pharma) urged to continue. After which Deputy Secretary (Health) A Punithamari issued a notification in this regard after the Lieutenant Governor. Tamilisai Sundararajan granted approval.
The notification said that the medical colleges had conducted classes in hybrid mode and the fee prescribed by the committee for the academic year 2021-22 in 2018 and 2020 may not be detrimental to the institutions.
The notification directs the colleges to pay the fees as prescribed by the Fee Committee on 3rd July, 2018 for admission of students in MBBS/BDS courses and on 27th December, 2018 for admission of students in B.Sc Nursing courses and on 22nd December. continue. Admission of students in B Pharm courses for the current academic year 2021-22.
Similarly, the government has decided to continue the existing fee structure for all technical and B.Ed courses in unaided private self-financed engineering colleges/ unaided private self-financed B.Ed colleges for the current academic year 2021-22 as well. During this, Pondicherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association president V Bala alias Balasubramaniam urged the Puducherry government to set up a fee monitoring committee. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka Governments should ensure that the colleges do not charge more than the fee prescribed by the Fee Committee and initiate action against the defaulting colleges.
