No covid deaths in Chennai for the second day in a row. Coimbatore News – Times of India

CHENNAI: For the second day in a row, a single person succumbed to COVID-19 in Chennai. Apart from Chennai, other 29 districts of Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, reported no Covid-19 deaths on Sunday.
A total of 35,783 people have died due to this virus in the state so far. This also includes the 15 deaths recorded on Sunday.
For more than two months, the state’s case fatality rate has not come down. It remains around 1.3%. This means that for every 100 confirmed cases, at least one died of Covid-19.
But the number of fresh infections continues to decline in Tamil Nadu. On Sunday, 1,329 tested positive for the virus.
Though Chennai reported the highest number of cases (164), the district’s test positivity rate (TPR) remained unchanged at 0.8% this week, lower than the state average of 0.9%.
Coimbatore, which was second on Sunday’s infection chart with 157 fresh cases, has a slightly higher TPR of 1.3%. Erode is another western district with similar TPR. Namakkal (64 new cases) in this region had the highest TPR of 2% on Sunday.
State health secretary J Radhakrishnan said, “As vaccine coverage has increased, infection rates have come down in 18 Tamil Nadu districts compared to last month and many were in western Tamil Nadu.”
However, people with fever should immediately contact the nearest hospital instead of self-medicating, he told reporters on Sunday.
But on the other hand, there has been a decline in the number of samples tested in TN laboratories in the last month. Earlier it was above 1.55 lakh per day. But now it has come down to 1.4 lakhs.
