No covid deaths in 3 days, fresh cases below 100 in Tamil Nadu Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: For the third day in a row, Tamil Nadu recorded zero Covid-19 deaths on Sunday. There is also a steady decline in the number of new infections in the state. The daily number of Covid cases came down to below 100 on Sunday. In the last 24 hours, only 95 people tested positive.

The state health department on Sunday released the results of an analysis of the deaths. So far 38,023 deaths have been reported due to complications related to Covid in the state. According to the report, about 10% of the deaths occurred in people over the age of 90.
A faster recovery rate helped bring down the number of active cases to 1,173. There has been a decline of 57.6% in active cases as compared to the previous week. Chennai, which reported the highest number of new cases with 35 patients, had 388 patients undergoing treatment. About 50 needed hospitalization. The rest with minor symptoms have been kept in home quarantine.
However, Chennai’s test positivity rate (TPR) is 0.8%, which is slightly higher than the state average of 0.2%. State health officials said they would continue to test around 40,000 samples across Tamil Nadu in the coming week.
Coimbatore, with a TPR of 0.4%, reported only 10 new infections on Sunday. Zero new cases were reported in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu including Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Karur, Sivagangai, Tenkasi and Trichy.
“Though the number of cases is decreasing in Tamil Nadu, people should be careful as the spread is still not controlled in the neighboring states of Kerala and Karnataka. Also, the number of cases is increasing day by day in many countries. . Singapore and Malaysia. COVID appropriate behavior is imperative for a few more months,” said Health Minister Ma Subramaniam.
He also instructed people to get vaccinated. He said that people in the age group of 15-18 and senior citizens who are due for their second/booster dose can make use of the weekly mega vaccination camps and vaccine kiosks set up on weekdays.
According to official figures, about 13 million people have to give a second dose. District collectors and health officials have been asked to compile a list of people eligible for their second dose and expedite the vaccination process.
