No Covid-19 deaths in Japan for the first time in 15 months – Times of India

Tokyo: Japan 15. No daily deaths from Kovid-19 on Sunday for the first time in monthBecause the infection is decreasing rapidly in the country.
Health officials said on Monday that there had been no deaths the previous day, bringing the total to 18,310 deaths in Japan since the pandemic began.
Japan on Monday eased entry restrictions for foreign students, workers and short-term business travelers who have been fully vaccinated, their activity plans guaranteed by sponsors and adhere to 10 days of self-isolation.
Self-quarantine for Japanese citizens and foreign residents was also reduced from the previous 10 days to three days.
The last time Japan reported no new coronavirus deaths August 2, 2020, according to the ministry.
Japan was then hit by multiple waves of infections, including the one led by the delta version last summer, when daily cases stood at nearly 25,000. Health care systems came close to collapse and tens of thousands of patients who could not find hospital beds had to recover at home. In Tokyo, new daily cases rose to nearly 6,000.
Nationwide cases began to decline in September. Experts have attributed the decline in vaccination progress as well as widespread wearing of masks and the use of disinfectants to other reasons.
Vaccination in Japan, despite a slow start, accelerated in June, and now about 74% of the population is fully immunized. The government plans to introduce booster shots in December and also secure newly developed COVID-19 drugs.
Japan is gradually expanding social and economic activity, although experts caution against easing restrictions.
Dr Shigeru Omi, head of a government coronavirus panel, stressed the need to catch early signs of any surge in cases and take necessary steps without delay.
