Nitish Kumar's party raised old demand to be included in PM's cabinet: Sources

Cabinet reshuffle: JDU says that it has 16 MPs, so it should be given at least four ministries.

New Delhi:

Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet reshuffle, Bihar’s ally Nitish Kumar’s party has once again raised the old demand. A top leader of Janata Dal United today said the party will not accept anything less than four slots in the cabinet following the principle of proportional representation.

Last evening Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had said that JD(U) would join the government and would accept whatever is offered.

However, party sources denied this apparent climb.

A JD(U) leader said, “If JD(U) gets proportional representation in the Modi cabinet, only then we will join the government.”

The leader said that if the party is offered only two ministries, it will affect the social equations and political mathematics in Bihar.

JD(U) says it has 16 MPs, so it should be given at least four ministries.
