Nirmal: Protest by Dalit organizations over the demolition of Ambedkar’s statue

Soft: Dalit organizations protested here on Monday demanding action against those who vandalized the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar by some unknown person in Bhainsa town.

Condemning the incident, activists and members of various Dalit organizations staged a road blockade and protest in Bhainsa assembly constituency. Mild tension prevailed when the police transferred the women who blocked the road in Bhainsa town to the local police station. Traffic came to a standstill for some time.

There were widespread protests in several parts of Bhainsa division, demanding action against those who damaged the statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution. The protesters urged the police to take steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. He demanded strict action against the guilty.

Additional Superintendent of Police Bhainsa requested the protesters to extend their cooperation to the policemen who were trying to trace the criminals and restore peace in the city. He appealed not to believe the rumors being spread on social media. He said that steps are being taken to arrest the culprits.

On Sunday, an unidentified person vandalized the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar located in front of the hospital in Bhainsa area, triggering tension and protests in the town. He allegedly tried to attack those who tried to nab him. In protest against the incident, a youth from weaker section tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol.
