Mayank Mehta, along with his wife and Modi’s sister Purvi, had sought evidence in the money laundering case filed against Modi and others by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January.

The court accepted their arguments when they submitted that they wanted to make such disclosures which would prove to be important to establish the facts against Modi and others.

A British national, Mayank, had sought quashing of the non-bailable warrant against him, saying he would appear before the court due to the ban on international travel. COVID-19 are resting. The court had stayed the verdict till his appearance in the court.

Last week, Mayank had said that he would appear in court on Tuesday. He had demanded that in view of the pending warrants, the investigating agencies should be directed that they should not be detained by any Indian official on their arrival.

The court had allowed the application saying that no action would be taken against him till he appeared in the court after his arrival in India.

Belgian citizen Eastern has also demanded cancellation of the warrant. The court also adjourned the petition till its appearance in the court.

In their application to become prosecution witnesses, both have said that their personal and professional life had come to a standstill due to Modi’s alleged “criminal activities”. They also said they wanted to distance him and provide “substantial and significant evidence” about him and his behavior.

The CBI had not named Mayank and Purvi as accused, but their names were there in the ED complaint. The ED had not raised any objection to his becoming an official witness.
