Pooran has hammered 139 sixes in 58 T20 matches played so far in 2024. The previous record of most sixes in a calendar year was held by Chris Gayle, who smashed 135 maximums in 2015.
Star West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran was on fire for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League 2024 match played against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Saturday (August 31). The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter faced a total of 43 deliveries and, with the help of seven fours and nine sixes, scored 97 runs. By smacking nine sixes during his super knock, the former West Indies T20I captain broke batting legend Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes in a calendar year.
The 28-year-old Pooran has 139 sixes to his name in 58 T20 matches played so far in 2024. Gayle had hammered 135 sixes in 36 T20 matches played in 2015.

In 2024, Pooran has played for teams like Durban Super Giants in SA20, Lucknow Super Giants in IPL, MI New York in Major League Cricket (MLC), MI Emirates in ILT20, Northern Superchargers in the men’s Hundred competition, Rangpur Riders in BPL, TKR in the ongoing CPL, and the West Indies men’s cricket team.
The all-time leading run scorer for the Men in Maroon in T20Is scored 499 runs with the help of 36 sixes in the IPL 2024, and for the West Indies, he has 384 runs to his name in 2024 with the help of 34 sixes in 13 matches.
Thanks to Pooran’s super show with the bat in the third match of CPL 2024, TKR managed to post a total of 250 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs at the Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts, and then restrict the hosts for 206 runs to win the match by 44 runs.
For the Knight Riders, apart from Pooran, Keacy Carty smashed 73 runs from just 35 balls. The right-handed batting all-rounder added 122 runs for the fourth wicket with Pooran.
