The agency says Islam, a resident of West Bengal’s Malda district, was wanted in the case of recovery of “high quality” FICN in December, 2019, with a total face value of Rs 2,49,500.
The recovery was made in Ghaziabad district by the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Uttar Pradesh.ATS) from a person named Mohammad Murad Alam, the spokesman said.
The NIA took up the matter in February, 2020 and later filed a chargesheet against the three accused Alam, Tauseef Alam and Shahnawaz Ansari.
“All the accused were members of a FICN racket in which counterfeit currency Bangladesh was being brought in from across the border. Murad Alam had received a consignment of counterfeit notes from Tauseef Alam and he had taken the consignment to reach the accused Ansari.”
The investigation found, the spokesperson claimed, that the FICN consignment was supplied to Tauseef Alam. Islam Which has “cross-border links” in Bangladesh, from where it used to procure FICN.
