With lifestyle changes and unavoidable work pressures, most of the people of the present generation are suffering from obesity. Women become vulnerable to obesity. A government report states that 51 per cent of the women living in Hyderabad are facing the problem of obesity.

Based on the annual report for the year 2019-20 by the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the Social Development Council (CSD) released a report after collecting information related to the population of women in Telangana and their health status.

According to the report, about 30.1% women in the state are suffering from the problem of heavyweight or obesity. Hyderabad tops the list with 51 per cent as compared to other districts of the state. Accordingly, one of the two women is facing the problem of heavy weight in the city. Asifabad Komaram Bheem district ranked last among other districts of the state, with 14 per cent women suffering from the problem of heavy weight or obesity.

The report also highlighted other issues including female literacy rate and caesarean delivery. The female literacy rate is 66.6 percent in Telangana, where Hyderabad tops with 83.6 percent and Jogulamba Gadwal district comes last with 45 percent.

Out of the total deliveries in Telangana in 2019-20, 60 per cent deliveries were of caesarean nature. Karimnagar topped the list with 82.4 percent caesarean deliveries, while Komaram Bheem district stood last with 27.2 percent caesarean deliveries.
