New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns’ wife requests privacy in ‘tough times’

Cairns has been put on life support system and has undergone heart surgery.

Cricket Enthusiasts across the world are praying for the speedy recovery of former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns after suffering a heart attack in Canberra. Cairns had collapsed after a stroke that led to aortic dissection. This condition occurs after a tear in the inner lining of the main artery. Cairns has been put on life support system and has undergone heart surgery. Unfortunately, he is not responding very well to the treatment that is being given to him.

Recently his wife Melanie Cairns spoke about the husband’s current condition. She also confirmed that Chris Cairns has now been admitted to a Sydney hospital and has already undergone another surgery. He requested the well-wishers for some privacy as the family grapples with this difficult time.

Melanie told NewstalkZB), “Initially she underwent surgery in Canberra, but the severity of her condition is such that she has now been shifted to St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, where she has had further cardiovascular surgery.” She also explicitly mentioned that there would be no further statement from the family on Chris Cairns’ medical condition and that they want people to continue to respect their personal space.

Chris Cairns has been an iconic player for New Zealand. He scored 3320 runs in 62 Test matches and took 218 wickets. In terms of ODIs, he scored 4950 runs and took 201 wickets in 215 matches. He played only two T20I cricket matches in his career. The last match of his career was a T20I against West Indies on 16 February 2006. The match played in Auckland ended in a tie after both sides scored 126 runs. Chris Cairns scored only two runs in nine balls in that match.
