The accused told the police that they did not realize that the body was trapped under the vehicle because the windshield was closed and the sound was loud.

A new high-quality CCTV footage of the Kanjhawala incident corroborates the statement of a witness, who claimed that the car which rammed the scooter of a 20-year-old woman dragged her body for about one-and-a-half hours on Sunday .

News agency ANI spoke to eyewitness Deepak Dahiya, who runs a confectionery shop on Kanjhawala road in Ladpur village.

Dahiya said the victim’s body was trapped under the car but the accused kept dragging the body for about 18 to 20 kms.

“It was 3:20 in the morning… I was standing outside the shop when I heard a loud noise from a vehicle around 100 meters away. At first I thought the tire had burst. As the car moved forward, I saw a dead body being dragged along. I immediately informed the police,” Dahiya told ANI.

The new CCTV footage also corroborated the witness’s claim that the car took down YouTube at around 3.30 am.

Talking to the news agency, Dahiya had said that after dragging the body for a long time, the car took a U-turn at around 3:30 pm and the woman’s body was still trapped under it. Dahiya said that the accused kept driving on the road for about 4-5 kilometers by repeatedly taking U-turns.

“I tried to stop them several times but they did not stop. For about one and a half hours, they kept carrying the dead body of the girl for about 20 kms. Dahiya said he also chased the car on his bike and was in touch with the police.

Eyewitnesses said that after about an hour and a half, the body fell from the car near Jyoti village on Kanjhawala Road, after which the accused fled.

Dahiya insisted, “It could not have been just an accident.”

Speaking to ANI, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer Delhi, Harendra Kumar Singh said that at the time of the incident, the girl fell off the scooty and was dragged under the car for a considerable distance. Police nabbed the accused on the basis of registered car number.

The DCP said, “The accused told the police that the windows of the vehicle were closed and music was playing at a loud volume, so they did not find out… When they came to know, they fled from the spot.”
