Andhra Pradesh has formed a new district called Manyam, with a large part of the tribal areas of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
Even as the dispute over the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border is yet to be resolved, another controversy has sprung up with the inclusion of Odisha’s Kotia in the new district of Andhra Pradesh.
The Kotia region of Odisha has been included in the Salur constituency by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh has also created a new district at Parbatipuram called Manyam, with a large part of the tribal areas of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. It consists of Salur and Pachipenta constituencies.
Leaders of all parties have opposed the move.
Gadadhar Parida, convener of the Kotia Development Council, said, “The fight over Kotia has been going on for a long time. To counter this, the state government and the district administration have formed the Kotia Development Agency.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jai Narayan Mishra said, “This is an Andhra conspiracy. Manyam will be a tribal dominated district.
“This is not acceptable. I have informed the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly. We will not tolerate this and will fight for Kotia,” said Jaipur MLA (Congress) Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
BJD MP Muna Khan said: “Kotia is part of Odisha. We have called an all-party meeting for Kotia. Panchayat elections are also held in Kotia.
