The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India has decided to start National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Super Specialty (SS) 2021 courses for postgraduate medical students from April 18 this year. The course will now start for the 2021 session as it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NMC has released a notification on its official website informing that the reason for the unprecedented delay in starting the SS courses last year has been COVID-19. However, the board has now decided to start the syllabus from April 18 this year.
The notification issued by the NMC said, “There has been a delay in the commencement of super specialty courses in the year 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.” Further, the administration said in the notice that the academic session for the SS courses for the year 2021 will start from April 18. The commission has also asked all PG students to complete the required duration of the course, which is 36 months.

The notification also mentions the date of completion of super specialty course for PG students. “The academic curriculum of the super specialty course will be completed by March 31, 2025,” it said.
Earlier, the Medical Counseling Committee had put the counseling process for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) SS (Super Specialty) 2021 on hold. Due to the addition of more seats and some pending cases in the court, the counseling was rescheduled. However, MCC started the registration for NEET SS 2021 counseling on April 1 this year.

Students who want to take admission in super specialty courses like DM, MCh and DNB have to appear in NEET SS exam. After qualifying for the written test with minimum qualifying marks, candidates will have to appear for the national level counseling conducted by MCC, DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services).
