Set against the backdrop of Bhavai, a popular folk drama form from Gujarat, under the direction of Hardik Gajjar, Prateek Gandhi plays Rajaram Joshi, a stage artist who plays Ravana in the Ram Leela presentation, a traditional performance of the Ramayana. .

The first trailer of the film shows a scene between the “Scam 1992” star and his co-actor, who plays Ram. In this scene Gandhi’s character is shown questioning the actor playing the role of Ram on the treatment done to Ravana’s sister Soorpanakha. That section committed the crime at the scene and said it had hurt his religious sentiments, with many demanding Prateek’s arrest and ban.

Now, the makers have issued a clarification saying that they have removed the sequence from the film and reiterated that the film does not hurt any “religious beliefs”.

In a statement posted on Twitter on the official page of Penn Studios, the makers said that the film is a “fictional love story” of two men working in a drama company and how their lives take a turn from the stage.

“The promo of the film was released under the title “Raavan Leela” as the protagonist is a drama actor who plays the role of Ravana in the play. With regard to the concerns regarding the title of the promo and a dialogue in the promo, we would like to clarify. That the dialogues and the above title ‘Raavan Leela’ are not a part of the film as well as have been omitted from the promo. The sentiments of our audience,” the statement read.

The makers said that ‘Bhavai’ does not intend to hurt any religious belief and has also been cleared by the Censor Board of Film Certification with a ‘U’ certificate.

“We hold the highest respect for Hindu culture and Ramayana. The film and/or any part thereof does not hurt any religious sentiments or religious beliefs. The movie “Bhavai” has been approved and passed by Censor Board of Film Certification under ‘U’ category.

“We are confident that this clears and dispels all apprehensions, misrepresentations, doubts and misconceptions regarding our film ‘Bhavai’ in various media including digital media,” the statement said.

The film is presented by Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studio) and produced by Dhawal Jayantilal Gada, Akshay Jayantilal Gada, Parth Gajjar and Hardik Gajjar films in association with Backbencher Pictures.

“Bhavai” also stars Aindrita Ray, Rajendra Gupta, Rajesh Sharma and Abhimanyu Singh in pivotal roles. It is set to be released theatrically on October 1.
