Netflix Pays Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence USD 55 Million For Don’t Look Up: Report

Streaming service Netflix, which is producing director Adam McKay’s sci-fi dark comedy Don’t Look Up, reportedly paid $55 million (Rs 409 crore) for a fee involving lead actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence . According to Variety, DiCaprio was paid $30 million (Rs 223 crore) and Lawrence $25 million (Rs 186 crore) for the film. This is more than the standard $20 million received for a theatrical release. Actors are paid more than usual because unlike a theatrical release, actors’ salaries are not tied to box-office profits.

In addition to DiCaprio and Lawrence, Don’t Look Up also features an ensemble cast including Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Matthew Perry, Chris Evans, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Himesh Patel, Tyler Perry and Ron Perlman. It is being told that the budget of the film was $ 75 million.

Meanwhile, as reported by Variety, Netflix will also pay Daniel Craig a combined fee of $100 million (Rs 743 crore) to star in Knives Out 2 and 3. The Rian Johnson directorial was released in 2019 and starred an ensemble cast including Chris. Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson among others. Netflix bought the two sequels for $450 million (Rs 3,345 crore), with the guarantee that Craig would star in two sequels. This makes the James Bond actor the highest paid Hollywood star paid by the OTT platform.

Meanwhile, recently the first look teaser of Don’t Look Up was released. The film is to be released on the platform later in 2021.
