Nepal’s new Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba wins trust vote in Parliament

Nepal’s new Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday secured a trust vote in the lower house of the restored parliament. According to the Himalayan Times report, the 75-year-old Nepali Congress chief Deuba secured 165 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives.

The statement said 249 MPs took part in the voting process and 83 of them voted against Deuba while one legislator remained neutral. Deuba needed a total of 136 votes to win the confidence of parliament.

Deuba took the oath of office and secrecy for a record fifth time on July 13, a day after a five-member Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana restored the dissolved House of Representatives for the second time in five months. . The lower house was unconstitutionally dissolved by President Vidya Devi Bhandari for the second time in five months on 22 May on the recommendation of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Deuba won the trust vote on the first day of the restored session of the House. The President had called a meeting of both the Houses of Parliament on Sunday.
