Nepal’s New President Ram Chandra Paudel to Take Oath on Monday

Paudel’s victory was certain with the support of eight political parties. His opponent, Subas Chandra Nebmang, was supported by the CPN-UML led by former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

Nepal’s President-elect Ram Chandra Paudel will take oath at Rashtrapati Niwas on Monday. Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress was elected as the new President of Nepal on Thursday.

According to ANI, the oath of secrecy will be administered by the Acting Chief Justice of Nepal.

Paudel, a common candidate of a coalition of eight parties, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Centre) led by Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’, received the votes of 214 members of parliament and 352 provincial assemblies.

Paudel’s victory was certain with the support of eight political parties. His opponent, Subas Chandra Nebamang, was supported by the CPN-UML led by former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

This is the third presidential election in Nepal since it became a republic in 2008. The tenure of the current President Bidya Devi Bhandari ended on Sunday.

Although the office of President is largely ceremonial, political parties of Nepal have recently shown increasing interest in the office due to the discretionary powers it holds.
