The Nepalese Army has recovered 21 bodies from 22 people (including 19 passengers and 3 crew members) on board the unfortunate Tara Air flight. The army took 10 bodies to the base station on Monday evening (May 30) when a Pokhara-bound Jomsong plane crashed into the hills, killing all 22 people. The accident happened on Sunday morning (29 May), when a small plane lost contact with ATC 15 minutes after takeoff, which was just 5 minutes away from the destination. After searching all day, the wreckage of the plane was found in a remote valley, and bad weather made them difficult to reach.
“So far we have recovered 21 bodies. 10 bodies have been taken back to the base station in Khabang with the help of Mi-17 helicopters,” said Teknath Situala, spokesperson of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The search operation told ANI. The army reached the accident site on Monday morning (30 May).
He further added, “The rescue operation was very difficult because of the bad weather, even 50-60 rescue teams were deployed. Three helicopters are also deployed, carrying the bodies of the rescuers from the accident site to the nearby base station. are engaged in removing it.” Tara Air. operated byDomestic airline provider, Pokhara to Jomsom-bound turboprop plane crashed at an altitude of 14,500 feet at the base of Manapati Peak in Mustang district on Sunday.
A search operation is on for the missing body in the Himalayas, which according to officials is surrounded by thick fog, reducing visibility. “The accident site is located at 14,500 feet, making the terrain extremely slopey. Incessant rain and clouds have created problems for the rescue teams. Despite this, they are trying their best to retrieve the bodies and reach the base station. Of the 21 bodies recovered, 10 have been taken back to Kathmandu for postmortem. Informed the officials that the remaining bodies would be sent back to the capital. The twin-beaver aircraft that took off from Pokhara to Jomsom in Mustang at 9:55 am on Sunday lost contact shortly after takeoff and was later found on the Sansure rock of Thasang Rural Municipality-2 in Mustang on Monday morning Gone. Soon after the incident, the Himalayan nation’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation issued a press statement on Monday regarding the formation of a five-member panel to probe the tragic accident. Stating that Senior Aeronautical Engineer Ratish Chandra Lal Suman will lead the team. Preliminary investigations conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) revealed that the accident may have been caused by bad weather.
Pradeep Adhikari, Director General of CAAN, told the meeting of the International Committee of Parliament on Monday that the Tara Air plane crashed due to bad weather. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the aircraft which was supposed to turn right took a left turn due to bad weather and crashed,” he added. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba offered his heartfelt tributes to the deceased and expressed condolences to the bereaved families via Twitter.
Tara Air’s 9 NAET twin-engined aircraft had crashed at Kowang village in Mustang district, hours after it went missing in the hills district on Sunday morning after taking off from Pokhara town and bound for Jomsom. Mustang hill and is one of the fifth-largest districts of the Himalayan nation that host the pilgrimage to the Muktinath Temple. The district, also known as “the land beyond the Himalayas”, is located in the Kali Gandaki Valley of the Himalayan region of western Nepal.
