Nepalese authorities on Tuesday began handing over the bodies of those killed in the January 14 Yeti Airlines passenger plane crash to family members.

Nepal’s health officials on Sunday identified two more bodies of Indian nationals killed in the plane crash in Pokhara and assured the families of the victims that all four bodies would be handed over to them on Monday.

Nepalese authorities on Tuesday began handing over bodies to family members of those killed in the January 14 crash of the Yeti Airlines passenger plane with 72 people on board.

The plane was carrying 53 Nepalese passengers and 15 foreign nationals including 5 Indians and four crew members when it crashed into a river gorge in the resort town of Pokhara.

The five Indians, all reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, have been identified as Abhishek Kushwaha, 25, Vishal Sharma, 22, Anil Kumar Rajbhar, 27, Sonu Jaiswal, 35, and Sanjay Jaiswal.

The doctors of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have completed the postmortem of all the bodies received by them. Barring 12 bodies, the rest have been identified by the doctors.

Doctors on Sunday identified two more bodies of Indian nationals.

According to hospital sources, based on the evidence provided by the relatives of the victims, they identified the bodies of Anil Kumar Rajbhar and Abhishek Kushwaha.

Earlier on Saturday, Sharma’s body was identified. On Friday, Sanjay Jaiswal’s body was handed over to his family who took it back to India.

Only Sonu’s dead body is yet to be identified.

Sonu’s elder brother Vijaya Jaiswal and Sonu’s father Rajendra Prasad Jaiswal kept waiting at the hospital to receive the body on Sunday.

Other relatives present at the hospital included Anil’s father Ramdras Rajbhar, Abhishek’s younger brother Abhinesh Kushwaha and Vishal’s younger brother Vishwajit Sharma.

The relatives of four Indian citizens have been waiting for four days to receive the dead bodies of their loved ones.

A relative said on Saturday that they wanted to take back the four bodies of the Indians in one consignment.

Doctors at the hospital on Sunday assured the relatives of the Indian victims that they are trying to verify Sonu’s body from the clues provided by the family and will likely hand over the four bodies to relatives on Monday, a relative told PTI. .

Meanwhile, the Nepal Army said on Sunday that it continued its search operation in the Seti river valley and surrounding areas to find the one remaining body and would resume it on Monday.

So far only 71 bodies have been recovered.

According to Nepal’s civil aviation body, 914 people have died in air accidents in the country since the first disaster was recorded in August 1955.

The Yeti Airlines tragedy in Pokhara on 14 January was the 104th accident in Nepalese skies and the third largest in terms of casualties.
